Play on Words Competition 2011

The winners of the Play on Words One-act Playwriting competition 2011 were announced at the Birnam Institute Arts Centre on Saturday 5th November.

• First place and a prize of £500 went to David Hutchison of West Kilbride for his play ‘The Waves Roll in’.
• Second place and a prize of £300 went to Olive Robertson from Dunblane for her play ‘Who’s Who’.
• Third place and a prize of £100 went to Celia Clark of Toab, Orkney, for her play ‘The One We Love’.

Rehearsed readings of the three plays were presented and the professional judge, Alastair Cording, reviewed the writing of the plays and explained why he had chosen them as the winners. Cheques were presented to the authors.

The Scottish Community Drama Association is profoundly grateful to our Honorary President, Richard Wilson OBE who provided the money for the competition prizes.

The SCDA Playwriting Committee will shortly be reviewing our playwriting competitions. Watch this site for an announcement early in the New Year.

Geoffrey Whitworth Trophy

Another project organized by the Playwriting Committee is the Geoffrey Whitworth Trophy. This is for original plays which have debut performances in festivals organized by:

• All England Theatre Festival
• Association of Ulster Drama Festivals
• Drama Association of Wales
• SCDA
