Youth

We welcome everybody aged 18 and under to the Youth Section of the SCDA, no matter where your talents lie; acting, directing, behind the scenes making scenery or costumes, or in the technical aspects of lighting or sound. Many of the teams you see listed on the website have active Youth Teams, some who will ask you to audition for a part, and some who will find a production to suit everybody who wants to take a part on the stage. But of course as you know it’s not all about being in the spotlight, a performance wouldn’t be anything without good direction or good lighting, and all clubs are delighted to have members who are keen to help backstage.

We take our commitment to our Youth section very seriously. We run workshops, most recently a 2 day "Glee" workshop, and have a Drama Adviser, Carole Williams (nda@scda.org.uk) who is available to organise workshops or training of your choosing. Normally, these would be arranged through your clubs, but as members of your club you'll have a say in how its run and in its organisation.

The highlight of our year though, is the SCDA Youth One-act Play Festival. This runs from District, in your own local area, the winners going through to a Divisional Festival, competing with other District winning teams, and the winners of this competing in the Scottish Finals. The Scottish finals are held throughout Scotland, and as well as being a day to see the best SCDA Youth teams, its a great chance to meet other teams and members. We always try to host the Scottish Finals in a theatre befitting the occasion, but also somewhere we hope you would like to visit and bring friends and family for the day.

We also take our responsibility towards your safety very seriously, and are currently updating our child protection guidelines, which will be sent to all clubs.

We would love for you to join us, many of the "oldies" started in Youth teams and I guarantee you will learn loads, have the chance to take part in performances you will enjoy, but most importantly have a great time.

Please contact Jackie Westerman (jacksw@live.co.uk) or get in touch with SCDA HQ, or contact any of the local clubs in your area - and give them an audition!
